Bret completed his MS and PhD in Environmental Engineering and postdoc in Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of California, Berkeley, after completing his BS in Environmental Engineering at the University of Delaware. His research encompassed the characterization of life-cycle environmental, economic, health, and safety impacts associated with scaling up bio-fuel, petroleum, and transportation infrastructure; laboratory evaluation of anaerobic wastewater treatment systems; and review of alternative energy concepts—including very small nuclear reactors—for remote locations. Outside of academia, Bret has worked as a project engineer on construction, demolition, and remediation sites; as an environment, health, and safety consultant for industrial facilities; and as an energy technology R&D investment and policy advisor.
