Empowering Quthing’s Future: ERC Ignites Youth Passion for Energy Entrepreneurship

Great things are happening in Quthing! The Energy Research Centre (ERC) at the National University of Lesotho recently completed a dynamic Energy Entrepreneurship Workshop, empowering local youth with the skills to lead in the clean energy sector.

Hosted by the Bethel Business and Community Development Centre (BBCDC) under the LETSEMA project, the two-day session was led by ERC’s Project Manager, Ms. Palesa Nkaile. The room was energized, filled with the curiosity and ambition of young Basotho ready to build a sustainable future.

This wasn’t just a lecture series; it was a hands-on, practical boot camp. Participants rolled up their sleeves to tackle the real work of building a business, learning how to :

• Spot real opportunities in Lesotho’s energy landscape.

• Refine a big idea into a viable plan.

• Map out their vision using the Business Model Canvas.

• Craft a pitch that captures attention and communicates value.

We were thrilled to have key partners, BBCDC, Sebabatso Initiative, BEDCO, and the Registrar General’s Office, join us to share crucial know-how on everything from registering a business to protecting an idea and finding support.

The most inspiring part? Witnessing the participants’ drive. Their thoughtful questions and collaborative spirit built a powerful network in the room. Their focus on creating energy solutions for their own communities shows the true potential for grassroots innovation in Quthing.

This workshop is a core part of ERC’s mission to strengthen Lesotho’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. We believe equipping youth with clean energy and business skills is key to our nation’s progress.

The Learning Journey Continues: New Skills for a New Energy Future

Building on this momentum, we’re excited to open up the next chapter of learning. Through the LETSEMA project, ERC is now offering a suite of practical Micro-credential programmes to the public. These short, focused courses in Solar Technologies, Solar for Food Processing, Energy Efficiency, and Energy Auditing are designed to make high-quality, industry-relevant training accessible to everyone.

It’s about building the skilled talent pool Lesotho needs to power a modern, sustainable, and competitive energy future.

Join us in this mission. Together, we can turn potential into progress.
