NUL The Energy Research Centre (ERC) has successfully hosted the second part of the SOLTRAIN+ “Train the Trainer” course, held from 2–3 June 2025 in Maseru. The course was led by solar thermal expert Rudi Moschik from Austria. The training brought together a core group of professionals previously engaged in SOLTRAIN programs.
This advanced course forms a critical component of the SOLTRAIN+ initiative, which aims to build a robust network of local trainers who are equipped to transfer specialized knowledge in solar thermal systems across Lesotho and the broader SADC region. Participants included experts and researchers from the NUL-ERC and mobilisers from the private sector.
The intensive two-day workshop covered a wide range of topics including:
- Design and dimensioning of medium- to large-scale solar thermal systems,
- Use of simulation tools for system analysis,
- Conducting feasibility studies and energy audits,
- Monitoring and ensuring energy savings from solar thermal installations,
- Quality assurance, installation, and maintenance best practices.
The couse focusses on hands-on knowledge and real-world application. It empowers local experts not just to install systems but also to sustain them over time. A highlight of the course was preparing funding applications for demonstration systems—essential for scaling renewable energy projects.
ERC continues to champion renewable energy education and capacity building in the region through initiatives like SOLTRAIN+, affirming its commitment to a sustainable energy future for Lesotho and Southern Africa.
