From Classroom to Countrywide Impact: Lesotho’s Energy Leaders

In 2018, the NUL – Energy Research Centre (ERC) launched the accredited Master of Science in Sustainable Energy following support in curriculum development and training of trainers from the European Union. Almost a decade later, the impact is clear: graduates of that programme now shape Lesotho’s energy transition—as engineers, entrepreneurs, regulators, and innovators across the country.

Today, under the EU’s #RenewableLesotho Programme, part of the Global Gateway initiative, we continue to build on this strong foundation. The early investment in higher education created a skilled generation of energy professionals who now drive real change in households, companies, and institutions.

We celebrate the vision of the National University of Lesotho, the commitment of its teaching staff, and the achievements of its graduates—whose work is lighting up communities, making businesses greener, and supporting Lesotho’s sustainable development.
