Energy systems degrade over time. Components fail, performance declines, and systems designed in earlier years often struggle to meet current demand.
From 14–15 April 2026, this reality formed the basis of a specialised training programme in Photovoltaic (PV) System Theory and Practical Installation at Ha Palama Clinic in Leribe.
Mr. Kebane Phangoa of the Energy Research Centre – National University of Lesotho participated alongside technicians from the Ministry of Health and Mahlaseli Energy.
The programme combined hands-on installation (Day 1) with theoretical instruction (Day 2), focusing on an off-grid system comprising:
- An 8kW PV array
- A 9kW inverter
- A 10kW battery system
A key focus of the training was the integration of new systems with existing, partially degraded infrastructure — a critical challenge in remote healthcare facilities.
The training was delivered by CEZ Group (Clean Energy of Tomorrow) and kde jinde.cz, with support from The Lesotho Connection and the local community.
The initiative reflects a practical approach to strengthening technical capacity for off-grid energy deployment in Lesotho.
As demonstrated through this training, the central challenge in energy systems is not initial deployment, but long-term sustainability — particularly in contexts where reliable power is essential for service delivery.
